We serve a population of approximately 235,000 residents in the Urbana-Champaign metropolitan area where food insecurity levels surpass those of neighboring Chicago. This issue is exacerbated by factors such as heightened insecurity among a large student population and a significant influx of immigrants and refugees in recent years.
The repercussions of reduced food stamp and SNAP benefits, combined with a shortage of food pantries across our county, have had a profound impact on our community.
Our Drive-Thru Food Pantry serves our community by providing critically needed groceries every week on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm or 5-6pm.
In addition to providing base groceries, our drive through service lets families to choose hygiene items, snacks, and often drinks.
Our food bank is stocked by the USDA TANF program, purchases we make at discount through Illinois food bank, and also donations from grocery stores and church members.
We exist so that the ones we serve would feel love, experience transformation, and even encounter the miraculous of Jesus at work in their lives.
A force of around 60 volunteers make it possible to provide groceries and other assistance to between 300 and 350 families per week!
Along with meeting practical needs, we're so often a touch point for people to have someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, and someone to pray with them about current circumstances.
We have 5 different weekly volunteer times for serving at the Food Pantry that run Monday through Thursday. Based on your schedule, come and volunteer for food sorting or distribution.
